Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program
We are pleased to open our applications for the Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program! 

The Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program is part of a national initiative that prepares health profession students who want to serve in rural or underserved areas. Nebraska AHEC Scholars gain access to exclusive workshops, potential employers, community leaders, and national and state resources on the latest health topics to better understand the healthcare workforce needs in Nebraska.
 
Students enrolled in the following health professions programs are eligible to apply: ADN or BSN Nursing, Dentistry, Medicine (M.D./D.O.), Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Radiologic Technology.

To be considered, applicants must meet all eligibility criteria, agree to all program requirements, and submit a complete application by September 30, 2025 and space is competitive.

The application asks two short-answer questions:
1. What about the AHEC Scholars Program interests you?
2. What appeals to you in practicing in rural/underserved communities?

Application Timeline:
You will hear by October 3rd, 2025 regarding potential acceptance.

The AHEC Scholars Program starts in October 2025. If accepted, you will receive additional information.

By submitting this application, you acknowledge the following requirements for enrollment in the Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program:
  • A two-year commitment to program completion
  • Maintain enrollment in one of the following health professions programs (ADN or BSN Nursing, Dentistry, Medicine (M.D./D.O., Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, and Radiologic Technology)
  • Complete 40 hours of didactic education and 40 hours of community-based experiential training each academic year. (Note: Required clinical clerkships and/or rotations for your degree/certification may apply if completed in a rural and/or underserved area)
  • Maintain communication with the Nebraska AHEC Program
  • Complete necessary evaluations throughout the program
  • Complete a one-year graduation follow up

I understand that by completing this application I am applying to participate in the Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program and agree to the above-stated requirements and recognize these requirements are outside of my academic health profession program. I agree to continued engagement with the Nebraska AHEC Program until my health profession graduation and provide employment information one year post-graduation and will provide current contact information to the Nebraska AHEC Program Office whenever a change occurs. I understand that through my participation in the program I will be required to provide information necessary for federal reporting.


I am authorizing my academic institution to disclose any personal information pertaining to my acceptance or enrollment in their institution and to verify my community-based training (clinical rotations). The information to be released under this consent is for reporting and verification regarding my acceptance into the Nebraska AHEC Scholars Program.


In accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the undersigned student hereby grants to the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska, its campuses, its representatives, employees, agents and assigns, the irrevocable and unrestricted right to use, reproduce and publish photo/video of me, including my image and likeness as depicted therein, which are identified below, for editorial, trade, advertising or any other purpose and in any manner and medium, and to alter the same without restriction and to copyright the same. 


I hereby release the University of Nebraska, its components, campuses and its Regents, officers, employees, agents, legal representatives and assigns from any and all claims, actions and liability related to its use of said photographs. I recognize by signing below, I waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising from or related to the use of the photo and/or video.  My signature below also grants the University of Nebraska the use of my image for seven years from the date on this form.


The Nebraska AHEC Program is held within the University of Nebraska. The Nebraska AHEC Program subcontracts with the following entities and therefore are included in this release: Central Nebraska AHEC, Nebraska Panhandle AHEC, Northern Nebraska AHEC, Omaha AHEC, and Southeast Nebraska AHEC.
